If all the cargo spaces are refrigerated, the ship
is called as a fully refrigerated ship, or reefer.
If only some of the holds are refrigerated, the ship is called as
a partial reefer.
The Fully refrigerated ships are called as Reefers because they
are the refrigerated ships that are designed to carry frozen or
chilled cargo, such as fruits, orange concentrate, meat and fish.
Since their cargo is delicate, these ships are designed to go speedily,
and often it’ll be painted in white to hulls the reflection
of the suns heat, and helping to keep the cargo cool.
Reefer ships are actually large refrigerators,
that are heavily insulated and shuttered with bright metal that
prevents infect and is easy to clean also. They are ships which
tend themselves to be divided into many spaces than conventional
dry cargo ships, with several decks and locker spaces, so that various
commodities can be separated and carried, if necessary, at various
temperatures. Below the decks a reefer ship resembles a large
contemporary warehouse, and cargos are usually carried
and handled in palletized form, moved on conveyors or by electric
fork lift trucks.
