The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT),
the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), and the Kansas Department of
Health and Environment (KDHE) each are extremely concerned about
the number of deaths and injuries on Kansas roadways and continue
to work hard to reduce the numbers. In response to this epidemic,
the heads of these agencies have joined together in a unique cross-agency
endeavor, the Kansas Safe Driving Campaign.

The Kansas Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is an evaluation
of the current status and future needs of all modes of the Kansas
transportation system, including state highways and the local
road network, transit, rail, aviation and bicycle and pedestrian
facilities. The drafting of this plan is timely, given that the
state’s Comprehensive Transportation Program (CTP) expires
in 2009. It’s important to understand that while this LRTP
does not set forth a new transportation funding proposal; it does
provide a framework for future discussions about a new transportation
program.
