The Hilo International Airport has two levels,
with the entrance and exit to the terminal located on the ground
(street) level. The ground level includes the open air ticket lobby
area, passenger check-in, baggage claim, coffee shop, lei stands
and visitor information booths. Once you pass through the security
checkpoint and enter the newly decorated passenger holding room
designed with an ohana (family) style atmosphere, you may browse
the souvenir shop or sit and relax on the Hawaiian style sofas.
The second level is used primarily for the immediate boarding and
deplaning of passengers from the plane. Load bridges (jetways) are
used to enter the plane. The two levels may be accessed through
escalators or elevators.
