Air freight and passenger traffic increased in june

July 28th, 2010

The International Air freight traffic increased in June when evaluated with last year and passenger numbers grew as airlines saw a growing recovery from the economic crisis. The recovery is faster than expected. International freight traffic in June was 26.5% higher than last year and passenger demand increased to 11.9% said in a report by IATA, the International Air Transport Association.

IATA Director General Giovanni Bisignani said the development rates were unlikely to be maintained. Business confidence remains high and there is no indication that the recovery will stall any time soon. But with government stimulus packages tailing off and restocking largely completed, we do expect some slowing over the months ahead said by Bisignani.

The passenger growth in Europe is 7.8% compared to the 15.5% growth in Asia Pacific. China drove the most important improvement in demand last month. In Africa air travel was increased to a 21% due to World Cup in South Africa. Middle Eastern country airlines posted 18% increase as their core travel between Europe and Asia.

International air travel grew steadily by 10.8 percent in North America, helping to fuel strong second quarter financial results at US airlines. Airline capacity increased slightly above in June keeping 79.8% for passenger traffic and 53.8% for freight.

The orders for more than 400 new aircraft at Farnborough Air Show were an indication of increasing confidence but would make it tougher to equal capacity with demand said in a report by Bisignani.

UK DfT planned long period rail contracts

July 23rd, 2010

UK Department for Transport or DfT planned long period rail contracts in an effort to offer better value for taxpayers and more opportunity to operators. The contract is for 10-15 year as standard rather than the usual 8 years that have been granted early.

The extensive rail contracts will promote rail operators to spend more in those contracts. At the same time they will allow operators to climate slumps and prevent them from walking away when they make losses as National Express Group PLC do previous year.

The rail operators would get greater commercial freedom for more private investment in the rail transport to innovate in the way they deliver services said in a report by DfT. The improvements also need train operators to convene passenger satisfaction or being slipped of their contracts if they not succeed to meet the conditions.

There is a need to reform franchising to bring in more private-sector investment. Early changes to the franchising system are essential. The existing franchise system is too complicated, with too much micro management from Whitehall. This is not the best way to deliver value for money or protect passengers said in a report by Rail Minister Theresa Villiers.

The appraisal previously is revising methods of dropping long term costs of industry to taxpayers and passengers. The conclusion will be summarized in September and will help to form development.

The proposals are announced in public discussion that request outlook from across the rail industry, passengers and general public. The DfT will issue conclusion at the end of the year and will then start allow contracts in a fresh model later shortly.

The Aircraft manufacturers got final minute orders that are anticipated at the Farnborough International Air show on Thursday last day of the show this year a stimulation in commercial aviation. The orders value more than $28 billion at the show even though government budget cuts are keeping the defense sector in the depression.

The Air travel demand is continuing to rise in the Middle East and it is becoming clear that international demand is come back as the global economy shows signs of recovery said in a report by Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker after his airline agreed a contract with Boeing to take earlier release of US company fuel competent Boeing 787 jetliner.

Airbus revealed concept plane at Farnborough International Air show

July 20th, 2010

Airbus the Aircraft manufacturer revealed its concept plane which provides air transport passengers a view of future flight at the Farnborough International  Air show in England.

Air Transport

More than a flight of pure fantasy, the images released show what air transport could look like in 2050, even 2030, if development in obtainable technologies carry on rapidly. Airbus experts in aircraft materials, aerodynamics, cabins and engines came up with design which is an engineers dream to assemble the expectations of passengers of the future.

The concept plane has ultra long and slim wings, semi-embedded engines, a U-shaped tail and a light-weight smart body all features to additional environmental performance or eco-efficiency. The result is lower fuel burn, major slash in emissions, less noise and greater comfort said in a report by Airbus.

The air transport symbolizes an engineers vision about what an aircraft could look like in the future. It is not an actual aircraft and all the technologies it features, though possible are not likely to come together in the same way said in a report by its Executive Vice President Engineering Charles Champion.

The Airbus Concept Plane we want to inspire young people from all over the world to connect with us so that we can carry on to divide the benefits of air transport while also looking after the environment.

Launching date of Ebbw Vale to Newport rail link was outrageous

July 19th, 2010

The Launching date of Ebbw Vale to Newport rail transport link was extremely outrageous and put back. It was expected in 2004 that the Newport link would open at the same time as the Cardiff service then considered to be opening in 2006. But work on the Cardiff link not started until September 2006.

The line to Cardiff was opened in May 2008 and at the time it was generally expected the Newport service would begin in 2010. Then, in August of that year, local council transport body South East Wales Transport Alliance or SEWTA said it not imagine the passenger service opening until 2014.

The postponements at the time were blamed on need for resignalling works between Roger stone and Newport Railway Station and to Gaer Junction in Newport.

SEWTA also said a stretched funding package from Assembly was also pushing back the services start. The Cardiff to Ebbw Vale service has confirmed extremely popular with more than 1.4 million passengers using the service according to the Assembly.

Previously it was proclaimed that SEWTA has ordered a revision into opening a branch line between Abertillery and Aberbeeg as well as stations at Cwm, Pye Corner and a new station in Newport.

Bruce Power transport nuclear waste on Great Lakes

July 13th, 2010

Bruce Power an Ontario nuclear plant planned to transport nuclear waste on Great Lakes is angering ecologists and politicians even though the method is safe. Bruce Power has applied for a licence to use Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River to ship 16 decommissioned steam generators from its plant on Lake Huron to Sweden for reusing.

Bruce Power was looking for approval for use of roads from Owen Sound. Lovell Stanners said council may decide then whether to grant or decline the request. Murray Elston, a spokesman for Bruce Power, said there is a low level of radiation in the generators. He said a person would have to stand next to one for a few hours to receive the same amount of radiation they would from a chest X-ray.

Mike Bradley mayor of Sarnia accused Bruce Power of not seeking public consultation. Elston said the plant had to figure out possible scenarios before it could discuss the project with residents. He said that we have done this in right order and looking at the possibility of making sure that people know what we are doing.

Larry Kraemer mayor of Kincardine who can see the Bruce Power plant from his office window, says he has no concerns and was consulted about 4 months ago. He said about 3,500 residents of his town are employed at the plant and he has stood near the generators and felt safe.

University of Toronto physics professor Pekka Sinervo said shipping nuclear waste by boat makes the lowest threat of leaks. Sinervo said nuclear medicine procedures are increasing at hospitals, so shipments of nuclear waste will also increase until a long-term solution is found.

Bruce Power said the company in Sweden can remove and purify about 90% of metal, which was then used as scrap. Bruce Power is a private nuclear generating company located in Tiverton, Ontario which is 250 km northwest of Toronto.

US freight moving need renovation

July 9th, 2010

The US freight moving infrastructure is moving on smoke and badly in need of a classy renovation said in a report by transportation officers. At events in Iowa, Pennsylvania and Memphis, state transportation leaders lamented a chronic lack of investment in roads and other amenities and planned $10 billion a year.

Freight unlocking is called for 60,000 miles of new track in federal highway system, including 14,000 miles in the NAFTA passage that runs through Memphis as Interstate 69. The report said interstate highway capacity increased 15% between 1980 and 2006, but traffic was up 150% said in a report by The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials or AASHTO.

The national freight program is suggested to plan and organize solutions across state and regional lines as well as investment in roads linking highways to intermodal amenities such as railroad yards, sea and river ports and airports. The key to all of this is being able to connect the roads, rail, river and runway said Dexter Muller, senior vice president of community development at the chamber.

Transportation commissioners Gerald Nicely of Tennessee and Dan Flowers of Arkansas spoke in Memphis. The Mississippi equal Larry Butch Brown the organizations national president announced the report that truck traffic on America roads is expected to double in 40 years. Tennessee and Arkansas see the impact every day. Almost a third of the nations hectic 1,000 freight miles are in 2 states mostly on Interstate 40. Memphis is a main example of national freight policy said in a report by Nicely.

The trucks account for 60% of traffic on I-40 between Memphis and Little Rock. If you travel at night, that percentage of trucks is even higher said in a report by Flowers, director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. Our highway system is suffering under the weight of heavy usage which is the backbone of freight system.
