Deutsche Bahn AG the Germany state rail transport company confirmed yesterday that it approached the U.K. bus and rail transport operator Arriva PLC for a cash bid.
The German railway transport company which already operates the Chiltern Railways route between London and Birmingham said that discussions are going on and there can be no certainty that any offer will be made. Arriva shares were increased to 700 pence per share valuing the company at just about GBP1.4 billion.
Deutsche Bahn approached Arriva after the discussion had ended with state owned French company Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais or SNCF, regarding a probable join with France public transport operator Keolis. Deutsche Bahn is a big company when compared to Keolis.
Deutsche Bahn previously has a base in U.K. rail transportation after the holder of the Chiltern Railway franchise, the biggest regional rail operation outer of Germany, for an undisclosed sum in 2008. Arriva already has operations in Germany, holding both rail and bus transport networks, with over 3,000 staff in the country.

The Dubai Metro rail transport will increase its number of trains after seven new stations to be opened next month announced on a report by the rail transport officer, which will reduce journey times for peak hour commuters by nearly half. He also said that the travel would decrease the utmost staying times at stations from 10 minutes to six minutes during peak hours.
The head of rail transport operations for the Roads and Transport Authorities Rail Agency Ramadan Abdullah said in a report that the number of train car moving on the Red Line will be raised to about 25 when the new stations become functioning from April 25. At present there are 12 trains running on Red Line. The pending works in the stations on Dubai Metro Red Line will be finished in April 2010, and on the Green Line will be finished in August 2011 said in a statement by senior officer last month from Dubai Road and Transport Authority or RTA.
The Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA Mattar Al Tayer said in a statement that the service provider of the Dubai Metro Rail Project, Dubai Rail Link Consortium is set to finish the entire pending works on the Red Line 18 stations on 25 April 2010 and pending works in the stations on the Metro Green Line will be finished in August 2011.
The train operation of Red Line stations will be in points starting from April 25th, 2010 where numerous stations will be prepared that is Emirates Station, Airport Terminal 1 Station, GGICO Station, Al Karama Station, World Trade Center Station, Marina Station, and Ibn Battuta Station. The pending stations will come for function on the following months of 2010.
Above 842,000 people used Dubai public transport systems every day on average last year, announced by the officers. The count is put to increase in 2010 with the complete opening of the Metro Red Line next month. Upto 35 million passengers are predicted to journey in Dubai Metro on 2010.
