Chrysler announced electric version of Fiat 500 to US

Chrysler the US automobile manufacturer has announced they will be passing an electric version of the Fiat 500 to the US.  The car manufacturing is believed to start in 2012.  The ignition powered Fiat 500 set out for sale in America shortly this year.

The Fiat 500 is a small, lightweight platform ideal for combining electric vehicle technology. The US version will go through powertrain engineering and vehicle development at Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The car is powered with three important systems an advanced lithium ion battery, high power electric powertrain unit and an EV control unit to control overall power flow.

"The alliance with Fiat presented new opportunities to merge Chrysler Group engineering knowledge with new platforms and the Fiat 500EV is an outstanding example of our efforts," said in a statement by Chrysler Senior Vice President Engineering Executive Scott Kunselman.

Chrysler introduced an electrified version of the Fiat 500EV at the Detroit motor show previously this year. The particulars about the cars performance, power, range and recharge time have not been exposed.  US pricing of the Fiat 500EV will be declared earlier to the cars launch.
