Bombardier Rail Transportation won a tender for the new local two deck coach trains controlled by the French Railways (SNCF) on behalf of French Regions. The contract includes the design and production of 860 two deck electrical multiple units for a sum of around 8 billion euros or $11 billion, subject to work out some technical options.
Through this agreement, SNCF signed a first firm order for 80 trains valued at approximately 800 million euros ($1.1 billion US), financed by the Regions. Till now six Regions have placed orders, which they will finance: Aquitaine, Bretagne, Centre, Nord Pas de Calais, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and Rhone Alpes. The first releases of Bombardier order are planned in June 2013 and will persist until December 2015.
Bombardier produced a new two deck train platform especially for this tender in Northern France. The train features a modular concept to meet the provinces various needs in conditions of suburban, regional and intercity train transportation services. The train has broad body cars to present unrivaled capacity and a high level of comfort. The structural design and broad connectors which generate precision to the length of the train and improved safety features.
