Detroit of India

Do you have any idea, why the City of Delhi (India) is called the "Detroit of India"? Today in India, Delhi is considered to be the largest automobile market with the highest density of cars, a whopping ten times than the nation's average. Delhi's total of per thousand private cars, puts it above all the automobile heap which is closely followed by the cities Chennai and Ludhiana. Based on a recent study by Indian Automobile Manufacturers, India's capital Delhi has eighty five private cars per thousand population, which is secondly followed by the city of Ludhiana with fifty six per thousand which is then followed by Chennai at fifty one per thousand. With more than seven crore two-wheelers on Indian roads, the city of Ludhania has the maximum number of luxury car owners in the country.
