Gas prices not slowing holiday travelers

As summer temperatures are mounting, so are the gas prices, but it doesn't look to be slowing down Fourth of July travelers.

Due to events within the past year, gas prices are up just about $.70 from last year's Independence Day.

"Gas prices seem to have risen just in the past week," said Brenda Parker of Dothan, who frequently travels through Troy. "Last week it was $2.64 a gallon, and now it's $2.71. The prices make it difficult for me because I travel so much. I don't like them, but I think the extra increase is just because of the holiday."

While the prices have increased, Troy remains to be under the national average of $2.89 per gallon and the state average of $2.76, according to the American Automobile Association.

Larry Korey commented on Troy's prices as he stopped on his way to Florida. "It is cheaper here than it is in most cities," he said
