In an effort to defend the environment and decrease traffic congestion, the Berkeley City Council is considering a proposed fee on development those results in more automobile use.
At a public hearing Tuesday, council members premeditated the proposed transportation services fee, a result of some years of analysis. The fee will charge developers a fee to offset the impact of additional traffic generated by their projects.
Revenues from the fee will fund option transportation projects, such as bike paths and incentives for bus use.
